2. Unzip the RAR file using your desktop’s unzippling utility. Remember where you unzip the archive. There will be three sub-folders in the “Sample Icons” directory: Documents, Folders, Mixed. Each of those sub-folders will have *.ico files.

3. Open up AML Pages. Remember the following:

4. Open the Category Editor that you find on the toolbar

5. Click on “Create Category” and give it a name or highlight the default Category that you wish to change.

6. Highlight your newly created category, then click on “Show Icon” and navigate to the folder you have unzipped; select a sub-folder. The Category Editor will display the icons in that folder you picked.

7. Select your icon and then click “OK”. You may add new categories while the Category editor is open.

I am currently checking out AML Pages. I have been trying it out for a few weeks, writing articles for the Bible Workshop. The software is currently in version 9.10, a testimony to the kind of work that has been put into it. If one is familiar with other Tree Outliners like Treepad, Maple or even the one produced by Note Tab Pro, one will appreciate the functionality of this software.

AML Pages is a Note Organizer and Tree Outliner. One can import documents into it (*.txt, *.rtf, *.html, graphic files, etc.) as if it were a catalogue or one can create pages using the software.

Features That I Like

1. It can keep all one’s note collections (called “Documents”) in the same instance of the software through tabs that can be placed either at the top or bottom.
2. Support for graphics
3. The document page is in RTF. One can type and format the page one is working on.
4. One can import already composed pages into the Tree outline.
5. One can customize the application in a lot of ways.

Things I Do with AML Pages

I write articles not in a continuous page, but in several pages — like index cards — that I then organize and append to one another. AML Pages makes this procedure quite easy. In fact, this article was composed using index-card-like entries, brought together and then exported to a text file which I then copy and paste into my blog.

AML Pages also makes it easy for one to retrieve data and reuse them. With it, one can create a catalogue of the document files — whether text or graphic — that one has created. I create my own graphics and articles for posting on a website. After nine years of working on the web, I have quite a large collection of these files and I have placed some of these in a catalogue I created through AML pages. With an organized collection, I can immediately retrieve and reuse them.

Plugins That Enhance AML Pages

I have not seen any other Note Organizer/Tree Outliner with plugins that extend its capability. The download package already comes with two plugins, AML Assist and IE2AML. AML Assist is a small application that floats on your desktop and waits for you to drop any note that you want to be collected into AML Pages. IE2AML is a plugin that connects your IE Browser to AML Pages so that whatever data you gather from it can be stored into your AML notes collection. Then then are other plugins…

The Book2Folder plugin is the plugin I used for exporting the data in my tree outline into RTF documents. There is also lister plugin for Total Commander that allows one to view an AML Document via TC. Finally, there is a plugin that allows one to export AML content into PDF, One Note and other graphic files. It is called AML2Pic. There are other plugins, of course, but these are the five I have been using and I think that for the moment these are enough.
